The Church of England serves people locally through a parish system based upon geographical location. That’s why people know St Mary’s locally as the ‘Parish Church’. We are part of the Diocese of Sheffield and members of the Rotherham Deanery. In addition to our life together as a worshipping, learning and serving community we offer local people, who live within the Parish boundaries, the opportunity for baptism, weddings and funerals in accordance with Church of England rites:

Baptism – Baptisms, also known as christenings, are performed on Sundays within the monthly ‘Family Service’ which lasts for about 40 minutes from 10-30 a.m., (on the fourth Sunday monthly). Alternatively, baptism services can be arranged for 12 noon on most other Sundays, these last for about 25-30 minutes. Weddings – marriage services can be conducted most days between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. People who live in the Parish and have been previously married are welcome to apply. Fees are fixed and payable in advance. A £50 deposit is required when the wedding date is booked. Funerals – funeral services are conducted at the Parish Church followed by a short service at the graveside or crematorium. Fees are modest and are paid to the undertaker who will make all the arrangements. Services can also be performed at the crematorium or the graveside if preferred. Your chosen undertaker will normally make all arrangements with the Church for the service. If you require help with personal bereavement afterwards then please contact either John or Jim.
